School Cancellation News

In case of bad weather (such as ice, snow, or fog) tune in to your local radio stations WCEN-FM and CFX FM and/or Mt. Pleasant Public School’s local TV broadcast on channel 18. You may also get school closing information on local channel 9/10, channel 5, and channel 12.  If school is released early, we will follow the plan on your child’s early dismissal form.

We will not be able to make calls home in the event of an early dismissal.

Thanks!!

Head Lice Alert!

“Tis the season of head lice, and Pullen has had cases in a few of our classrooms this year.  To avoid spreading this annoying pest, any child with live lice or nits will be sent home for treatment.  When returning to school, each infected child must be checked in at the school office before re-entering the classroom.

Thank You

BE SAFE/CROSS SAFE!!!!

Parents please always use the crosswalk and/or crossing guard when crossing Brown Street before and after school.

Never cross between cars and busses.

It’s just not safe.  Thank you!!

Haiti Relief

The Service Learning Council at Pullen has decided to collect donations for earthquake victims in Haiti.  After researching various organizations, we found one listed in the Morning Sun that already operates a school and has plans for a clinic in Haiti.  On the website you can see the plans and note that they are bringing in doctors and aid right now.  You can read more about Haiti Foundation Against Poverty at http://haitifoundation.com/  Please join us in our efforts to donate funds to help with the devastation in this area.  Checks can be payable to HFAP.  You might also consider looking on the website for their section on donating by credit card.

Channel 18 Changing to 98

We have been told by Charter Communications that channel line-ups were changed on December 1st.  This will include Channel 18 which will move to Channel 98.  If you rely on Channel 18 for your school closing information, please make note of this change.

Attention! Attention!

Electronic games, trading cards, and other toys should not be brought to school.  They are causing a lot of distractions in the classrooms and at recess.  Thank you for helping us to monitor this troublesome situation.

This year, I resolve . . . to be involved!

Many people make New Year’s resolutions for themselves.  This year, you could make a resolution that benefits your kids too – a resolution to become more involved in their education.  Your children are likely to get better grades and be more interested in school.  Here are some ways to get started.

At home:

Establish a daily homework routine.

Talk with your children about their day.

Make sure they have all the school supplies they need.

Read aloud with your youngsters every day.

Praise your children’s school work and their efforts.

See to it that they get enough sleep on school nights.

At school:

Stay in touch with your kid’s teachers.  Send notes or e-mail if you have concerns.  Be sure they know how to reach you.

Share a skill, a job, or an interest with your child’s class.

Attend parent-teacher meetings whenever possible.

Encourage grandparents and other family members to get involved too.
